Οι Χοντρός και Λιγνός (πρωτότυπη αγγλική ονομασία: Laurel and Hardy), γνωστοί επίσης ως Χοντρός - Λιγνός, ήταν κωμικό δίδυμο ηθοποιών της πρώιμης περιόδου του Χόλυγουντ στον αμερικανικό κινηματογράφο. Αποτελούνταν από τον Σταν Λώρελ (Λιγνός) και τον Όλιβερ Χάρντι (Χοντρός). Δραστηριοποιήθηκαν από το 1927 έως και το 1940, και έγιναν ιδιαίτερα γνωστοί στις ΗΠΑ αρχικά και μετέπειτα επίσης και διεθνώς για τις φαρσοκωμωδίες στις οποίες πρωταγωνιστούσαν, με τον Λιγνό να είναι ο αδέξιος και αγαθός, ενώ ο Χοντρός ο υπερόπτης και ματαιόδοξος.[1][2]

Χαρακτηριστικά γνωρίσματα τους ήταν το ηχητικό σήμα στην αρχή και τέλος των ταινιών τους, το οποίο ήταν γνωστό ως τραγούδι του κούκου (The Cuckoo Song), καθώς και τα στρόγγυλα ημίψηλα καπέλα που φορούσαν.

Πριν την συνεργασία τους, και οι 2 ηθοποιοί ήταν καταξιωμένοι στον κινηματογράφο, όπου ο Λώρελ είχε εμφανιστεί σε πάνω από 50 ταινίες, ενώ ο Χάρντυ σε πάνω από 250 παραγωγές. Οι 2 κωμικοί είχαν συνεργαστεί και παλαιότερα στην ταινία Το Τυχερό Σκυλί (The Lucky Dog) το 1921. Ως αποκλειστικά κωμικό δίδυμο συνεργάστηκαν για πρώτη φορά το 1926,[3] και καθιέρωσαν την κοινή τους πορεία το 1927 στην βουβή ταινία Φορώντας παντελόνια στον Φίλιπ (Putting Pants on Philip). Συνέχισαν τις εμφανίσεις τους και σε πολλές άλλες ταινίες έως το 1944,[4] και μεταγενέστερα ξεκίνησαν να δίνουν ζωντανές παραστάσεις και για κάποια περίοδο κάλυψαν μεγάλο τμήμα της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας και της Ιρλανδίας.[4] Η τελευταία τους ταινία ήταν το 1950 με τίτλο Οι Νέοι Ροβινσώνες (Atoll K).

Συνολικά εμφανίστηκαν σε 107 ταινίες, 32 βουβές μικρού μήκους, 40 μικρού μήκους με ήχο, και 23 πλήρεις κινηματογραφικές ταινίες, ενώ είχαν και 12 ανεπίσημες σύντομες εμφανίσεις σε άλλες παραγωγές.[5] Στην πρωτότυπη ονομασία στην αγγλική γλώσσα, ήταν γνωστοί ως Λώρελ και Χάρντυ (Laurel and Hardy), ενώ στην ελληνική γλώσσα έγιναν γνωστοί ως Χοντρός και Λιγνός από τα φυσικά τους χαρακτηριστικά, ενώ υπήρξαν και κόμικ στα ελληνικά με την μορφή τους.[6]

Αφιέρωμα στην ζωή των 2 αποτελεί η ταινία Stan and Ollie με πρωταγωνιστές τους Στηβ Κούγκαν και Τζον Σ. Ράιλυ, με έτος κυκλοφορίας το 2018.[7][8]
